Concept

The world’s first: fireworks become immersive art.

The more we stage them, the further fireworks seem to drift away from us. Their magic was never in the staging. It is the instant of light that tears through pitch-black darkness, the burst that splits the silence and shakes you to the core, the sparks and ash that drift down on the night wind. The people of Edo-era Japan forgot even the risk of being burned and simply kept gazing up at the sky. They were not watching fireworks — they were taking part in them.

IMMERSIVE HANABI MAGIC. We are bringing that origin back to life, today.

Real fireworks blooming overhead, the vivid light of digital “inverted fireworks” wrapping around your whole body, a shower of color pouring down from the night sky. As you dissolve into light and sound, you are no longer a spectator — you become one of the lives that make up the fireworks.

And when the fireworks end, what remains is not a finale. Your whole being is wrapped in art, and in your heart the fireworks keep on blooming.

A Symphony of Vision

Akira Hasegawa is an artist known as a pioneer of projection mapping.

His creation, Digital Kakejiku (D-K), expresses the spirit of Japanese culture through contemporary digital technology — an art form without parallel anywhere in the world. D-K is “music without sound,” and “a silence that comes once in a lifetime.”

Since unveiling Digital Kakejiku in 1997, he has staged installations around the world, from the Parthenon in Greece to the United States, Austria and China. At the ZERO ONE SAN JOSE ART FESTIVAL in San Jose, USA, he was named Best Artist in the Public Art category, earning international acclaim. In 2013, he created a surprise art piece for the Nightcap banquet held in connection with the Nobel Prize award ceremony.

In the past decade alone, he has installed Digital Kakejiku at some 500 sites in Japan and abroad — World Heritage sites, National Treasures, temples, museums and public spaces — continuing to share a new culture of “spatial art made of light” with the world.

Hasegawa’s work is not video, but “an experience that turns space itself into art.” It is highly regarded as a one-of-a-kind art in which people, architecture, nature and history become one.

Two fireworks makers at the very top of Japan.

Saiki Fireworks Co., Ltd. and Marugo Co., Ltd. Both have long histories and have contended for the top prizes at national competitions for decades — two of Japan’s foremost teams of pyrotechnicians. Two houses with different techniques and different aesthetics, side by side in the same night sky. That the two share the stage at an event of this scale is itself a rare opportunity.

The magician of the fireworks world, commanding light at will.

Founded in 1954, Marugo has never stopped innovating. One of Japan’s leading fireworks makers, it won the Prime Minister’s Award — the highest honor — at the 2022 Omagari Fireworks Competition. Its command of “time-lag illumination,” in which points of light appear to freeze and glide in midair, makes it truly the magician of the fireworks world. Its breathtaking “Music Starmine,” perfectly synchronized to music, is the company’s signature and not to be missed.

Every firework still finished by hand, one by one, just as it always has been.

Founded in 1901 and with more than 120 years of history, Saiki Fireworks is known as “the originator of Koshu fireworks” — a distinguished house that preserves tradition while constantly pursuing the highest beauty. Symbolizing its artistry, and stunning the industry, is its masterpiece “Seireika.” Built around the idea of “carrying happiness,” its unique palette of pink, pale blue and lemon yellow is a signature craft made possible only by delicate color-blending technique.

Location

Mt. Fuji and Lake Yamanaka — a borrowed landscape like no other.

The venue looks straight out at Mt. Fuji, with the lake spread before it — the whole view in a single sweep. Come in from midday and enjoy the hours themselves as the color of the sky shifts moment by moment. Mid-October is also a season when you may catch “Diamond Fuji,” the sun shining right at the summit.

The venue opens at 12:00. Spend the hours before the show at your own pace on the lawn, with Mt. Fuji and Lake Yamanaka in view — picnic on the grass, or wander along the lakeshore. This day begins long before the first firework. A wide range of vendors will be on hand, from local specialties and meat dishes to sweets and drinks. The food booths alone make the day well worth the trip. Vendors will be announced as they are confirmed.

Volunteers Wanted — Event Ticket Included

Gathering the “fragments of dreams” on the lakeshore
Guests joining the cleanup the day after the event

The day after the fireworks, we return to the lakeshore where the event was held for what we call “gathering the fragments of dreams.” Once they burn out, the fireworks launched into the night sky fall back to earth as shell casings and fuses. We collect them, one by one.

Our work goes beyond cleaning up: sorting and reducing waste, recycling the resources that running the venue produces, and easing the burden on the local natural environment. Lake Yamanaka and Mt. Fuji are the landscape this event borrows as its greatest asset, and we want to hand them on to the next generation just as they are. That is our basic stance as we work toward an environmentally conscious fireworks festival.

The work isn’t done by FIREBOX staff alone. We walk the beach together with guests who looked up at the same sky the night before. People who shared that night’s emotion clear away its traces with their own hands — and we believe that, too, is part of this event.

Every volunteer will receive a ticket to the event.

On May 30, 2026, unmistakable smiles spread across the foothills of Mt. Fuji.
That sight is what decided our next step.

Many people came out for the first-ever HANABI MAGIC. Cheers rising toward the night sky, and smiles that stayed long after the last shell. It was a day that gave us real confidence — and one that also showed us clearly where our operations fell short.

Every piece of feedback we received is being built into the design of this edition. In doing so, we returned to one line of the VISION we have always held: “to create and deliver new ways of enjoying fireworks.”

With IMMERSIVE HANABI MAGIC, we take on something new: bringing fireworks and projection mapping together. From this place, we will bring you a kind of joy you have never experienced before.

Frequently Asked Questions

Held rain or shine; cancelled in severe weather

The event will be held rain or shine. However, it will be cancelled if the organizer determines that safe operation or the intended show cannot be maintained because of warnings or advisories for strong winds, heavy rain, lightning or dense fog, or comparable severe weather.
The event may also be cancelled in the event of an earthquake or other disaster, or if we determine that the fireworks cannot be enjoyed safely and as intended. Thank you for your understanding.

Suspension or early termination

If any of the following occurs while fireworks are being launched, the show will be suspended or terminated immediately.

  • Unauthorized persons enter a restricted area
  • A fire warning is issued
  • An accident occurs, or is likely to occur

Refund policy

There is no backup date, and the event will not be postponed. In the event of cancellation:

Cancelled before the show
Tickets will be refunded in full (excluding payment fees).
Cancelled after the show begins
Tickets are non-refundable.
How to get a refund
Through the platform where you purchased your ticket.
Not refundable
Incidental costs such as transportation and accommodation, and sponsor or complimentary tickets.

Apart from drinks for staying hydrated, please do not bring food or beverages. Please use the food area in the venue.

Other restricted items

Dangerous items and open flames, drones and radio-controlled devices, mats and chairs (low, backrest-only floor chairs are permitted), and photography equipment such as tripods may not be brought in (except for the Photographer Seat). Strollers are allowed in the venue but not at your seat (paid stroller storage is available on site).

Parking must be purchased in advance. There are no same-day sales, so please buy it together with your ticket beforehand. Parking tickets cannot be purchased on their own.

Yes. A dedicated wheelchair viewing area is available. If you wish to use it, please purchase a ticket and apply in advance. How to apply will be announced on this page once confirmed.

Wheelchairs are not available for loan at the venue. Accessible restrooms are available on site; please see the venue map for their locations.

Preschool children may attend free of charge, but only when accompanied by an adult guardian and not using a seat. If your child needs a seat, please purchase a ticket of the relevant type for them as well.

Strollers are allowed in the venue but not at your seat. Please use the paid stroller storage on site.

Yes. Please enjoy shooting from your own seat without disturbing other guests.

Photography equipment

Tripods and other photography equipment are not permitted in general seating. If you wish to shoot with a tripod, please book the dedicated Photographer Seat.
